Charles Frail (folk) released his first record “Morning, it Breathes” in 2011: a 41 minute long stream of consciousness song on morning and mourning. He shared stages with (among others) Daniel Johnston, Josh T. Pearson and Dustin O’Halloran. He stopped performing under this name for over ten years but recently resumed work on what will be his second record: Mirror River. “In this musical landscape, where streams have pushed out CDs and vinyls, I wanted to investigate what other means we have to make music physical. With a 40 minute long song you can hear how the guitar slowly gets out of tune, how my voice starts to struggle. Art is only valuable when it illuminates a partition of the human condition. Our imperfections make us human. What worth then is a song if it is auto-tuned? If the musicians have never been in the same room? The build up of a long song – that consists of intricately interwoven parts – lends a heaviness to the silence that falls after the final chord.”
